The Road to Your Wedding Day: A Preparation Guide

Artistry is a partnership. To ensure you receive a fully dedicated, tailored, and hands-on experience, I’ve put together this guide to help us achieve the most luminous, long-lasting version of your wedding day look.

  • The Science of the Skin (The Canvas)

Makeup is a beautiful enhancement, but the true secret to a "lit-from-within" glow is the skin underneath.

The "Sponge" Effect & Hydration Think of your skin like a sponge. When a sponge is hydrated, it is soft, plump, and smooth. When it is bone-dry, it becomes hard and full of visible texture. Makeup is a liquid or cream that sits on the surface. If your skin is "thirsty" (dehydrated), it will physically try to pull the moisture out of your foundation. This is what causes makeup to look textured, patchy, or "cakey" by the middle of the day. No amount of makeup can fix a thirsty canvas.

Texture vs. Tone As an artist, I can neutralize redness or dark circles with color theory. However, makeup cannot hide texture. Dehydration creates "micro-lines" and dry patches that catch the light in a way that makes the skin look tired. True radiance comes from cellular hydration—when your skin cells are so full of water that they create a smooth, reflective surface.

The SPF & Tan Line Commitment

    • The "Sticky" Factor: Sunburned skin is damaged skin. It creates a heat barrier that causes makeup to literally "slide" or separate from the face.

    • The Tan Line Trap: Please be mindful of your clothing (sports bras, high-neck tanks) starting now. Natural sun creates harsh, high-contrast lines that are nearly impossible to camouflage seamlessly in person. For a flawless look, protect your skin as if you are already wearing your wedding gown!

    Your Hydration Timeline

    • Daily Goal: Aim for half your body weight in ounces of water.

    • The Secret Weapon: Add electrolytes (like LMNT or Liquid I.V.) to your water once a day. This ensures the water actually enters your cells to keep them "bouncy."

  • For many people, the world of skincare can feel overwhelming and overly complicated. If you don't currently have a routine, don't worry—we don't need twelve steps to see a difference. We just need consistency.

Think of this as "training" your skin for your wedding day. These five simple steps will ensure your skin is hydrated, smooth, and ready for a flawless makeup application.

    The "Glow Foundation" Routine

A simple, intentional morning and night sequence.

The Morning Routine (Protect & Hydrate)

Goal: To shield your skin from the environment and keep it plump throughout the day.

    1. Gentle Cleanser: Use a mild, non-stripping cleanser to refresh your face from any oils produced overnight.

    2. Hydrating Serum (Optional but Recommended): While your skin is still slightly damp, apply a Hyaluronic Acid serum. This acts like a "water magnet" for your skin cells.

    3. Moisturizer: Apply a layer of moisturizer to seal in that hydration. This creates the "bounce" we want for your makeup.

    4. The Non-Negotiable: SPF: Every single day. Even if it’s cloudy. This prevents the "sticky" texture of sun damage and keeps your skin tone even.

The Evening Routine (Cleanse & Repair)

Goal: To remove the day’s debris and let your skin drink up moisture while you sleep.

    1. The Double Cleanse: If you wore makeup or SPF during the day, wash your face twice. The first wash removes the product; the second wash actually cleanses your skin.

    2. Hydrating Serum: Again, apply your Hyaluronic Acid to damp skin.

    3. Night Cream/Heavier Moisturizer: Your skin does its best repair work while you sleep. Use a slightly richer cream at night to ensure you wake up with a soft, supple canvas.

    4. Lip Balm: Apply a thick layer of hydrating balm before bed. Smooth, hydrated lips are essential for long-wearing bridal lip colors.

    The Weekly "Bonus" Step

Gentle Exfoliation (1–2 times a week): Once or twice a week, use a gentle exfoliating liquid or scrub. This removes the "dead" skin cells that make makeup look muddy or patchy.

Why this routine works for your wedding day:

    • No "Sticker Shock": Your skin won't be shocked by aggressive new chemicals right before the wedding.

    • Texture Control: It focuses on smoothing the surface so the foundation can glide on rather than "clinging" to dry spots.

    • The "Why": By doing this, you are ensuring that on your wedding morning, I am working with a sponge that is already full, rather than a sponge that is trying to drink your makeup.

Final Pro-Tip: "Don't Try New Things"

Within two weeks of your wedding, please do not try any new products, intensive peels, or aggressive treatments. We want to keep your skin calm, happy, and predictable!

  • The Foundation (Hair Preparation)

To ensure your style holds from the first photo to the final dance.

The Vital Trim A great hairstyle begins with a great haircut. Many clients cling to every inch of length, but "dead" or "crispy" ends do not style well. Split ends lack the elasticity to hold a curl and often look frayed under professional lighting.

    • The Recommendation: Get a fresh trim (1/2" to 1") about 4–6 weeks before the wedding. Healthy hair reflects light and maintains its shape. Trust me—sacrificing a tiny bit of length will give you a much more beautiful, polished result.

    Clean, Dry, and Ready

    • 100% Bone-Dry: Please arrive with hair that is completely dry. Even a hint of dampness at the root will cause the style to fall or frizz.

    • The Wash Rule: If you have oily hair, wash/dry the morning of. If you have dry hair, wash/dry the night before. Use shampoo and a light conditioner on the ends only.

    • Product-Free: Skip heavy oils, masks, or flat irons. We want the hair's natural cuticle to be "open" so it can grip the products and hold its shape.

  • Prepping for Your Preview Session

Let’s make the most of our time together and ensure our visions are perfectly aligned.

    1. The Wardrobe Rule Please wear a white or off-white top to your preview. (A white tank top with thin or no straps is perfect).

    • Why? Dark colors cast "muddy" or dark shadows on your skin. White reflects light upward—exactly how your wedding dress will—so we can see the true clarity and warmth of the makeup.

    • The Neckline: Choose a neckline similar to your dress. Avoid collared shirts or bulky sweaters that hide your neck and shoulders.

    • Pro Tip: Wear a button-down shirt over your tank top so you can easily change without disturbing your finished hair and makeup!

    2. Curating Your Vision I want to understand your heart and your style. Transparency is key to a "no-surprises" wedding day.

    • The 3-4 Photo Limit: Please find and send over 3 to 4 inspiration photos that truly capture the "vibe" you love. Limiting your selection helps us focus on the specific elements you love most.

    • Share Your Board: If you have a Pinterest board, please send the link over asap. This allows me to guide you and ensures we both understand the aesthetic.
